What does that say about us? Basically the same thing people like Michael Shermer have been saying for many years: That we tend to believe in stupid things for strange reasons that we are only slowly starting to understand.
Interestingly, children seem to be less affected, just as in the Emperor’s New Clothes fairy tale. There is less social pressure on children both in strength (children are allowed more leeway) and duration as a function of age. Or, in other words, stupidity is a function of society.
