Collection of people that I strongly recommend everyone should know. These are here because there is not a single talk or article that is great about them, but the sum total of their work.
Basically, these are those of my heroes that belong here by context. The list is still incomplete. These are merely the first few that I thought of:
Not only one of the great scientists of his field, but also a well-spoken, passionate man. I can’t say whether his contribution to biology or to atheism is more important, historians will have to decide that. His The Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science is fairly new.
One of the great speakers of our time. Another great contributor to militant atheism, but even if you don’t agree with him (I disagree with him about Iraq, for example, like so many others) he is worth watching and listening to. Other people bring the metaphorical sharp knives to a discussion, Hitchens brings an assault rifle.
A former stage magician, debunker of psychics and other charlatans, founder of the James Randi Educational Foundation and probably most famously the guy behind the One Million Dollar Paranormal Challenge. Randi has debunked dozens of people claiming to have supernatural powers, amongst them most of the really big names.
