Sarlon was the oldest son of the entertainer family Ragazzi, which for hundreds of years had been travelling all over Auseka. At that time, they were members of the "council of vagabonds", which took care of the matters of entertainers in the western lands. The family Ragazzi had five children, all of which were gifted artists and acrobats. Near the city of Machogwa they made their winter quarters and paid the major well for his permission.

But soon there was a conflict with some of the locals, and the Ragazzi waggon was put to the torch. Three of Sarlon's siblings burnt alive that night, and his youngest sister Sofia escaped the flames only after being scarred with burn marks.

In the following years, the previously beautiful girl was scoffed and became more and more somber. Her injuries even made it difficult for her to run and other children laughed about her.

This was painful for Sarlon to watch and one day he said: "My beloved sister, your suffering pains my heart every day. I will take the scoffing and ridicule in your place." - and so he went and cut off his ears and nose and put himself up as a freak show. "Come and see Sarlon, the King of Fools", the yelled.

The story of Sarlon soon spread like wildfire and was told around the bonfires of entertainers, travelling folks, jugglers and misfits of all kinds, who saw that he acted out of pure love, and they said: "Sarlon, truely, be our king!".

But Sarlon refused and went away to distant lands.

Since this time, the story is told to remind the children that among the travelling folks, family is the biggest treasure. And that true love is within people, not without. And this message gives hope to the hopeless and solace to the misfits.
