01 - Prolog & Engagement

The party has been hired by a local former noble while passing through the area. Lucius Secundus Valerius has inherited his parents ancestral home, which while being an old roman villa, is unfortunately not just ruined since it burned down half a decade ago, but also said to be haunted by ghosts. He is willing to pay the party one bag of coins each to investigate the truth of these rumours and if they turn out to be true, lay the ghosts to rest.

The adventure starts with the party approaching the villa. Depending on their approach and the engagement roll, several things can happen.

Also quietly apply 05 - Bandit Alertness.

Frontal Approach

If the party decides to approach things from the front, weapons drawn and ready, start at Inside - North.

Their initial encounter will be in the Inside - North > Vestibulum.

Sneaky Approach

If the party prefers to sneak in and remain undetected as long as possible, the somewhat intact eastern side of the villa offers the perfect combination of damage and no damage, giving plenty of entry points and cover. Start at Inside - East.

Their initial encounter will be The Ghost of Elara in the Oecus (room 6).

Investigative Approach

Asking around and finding out something about the villa before, the party will find that Inside - West is probably the best way to enter, according to some villagers which have gone there, though none of them went deep into the villa as strange noises and glimpses out of the corner of their eyes scared them off.

Their initial encounter will be in the Inside - West > Torcularium.

No South Approach

The southern part of the villa is mostly intact, but all of the entrances and windows seem to be blocked by rubble or are bent in place by the heat of the fire. There is no way to get into the village from the south.
