Fortune Rolls

When the GM wants to leave a decision up to chance, or something happens in the environment that is not governed by any character and their abilities, make a fortune roll.

Typically, a fortune roll is made with a single dice. However, the GM may modify this to include fortunate circumstances or other effects that affect the outcome. He can also choose any ability or other suitable value to make the roll.

Otherwise, a fortune roll is made like an action roll, except that no support or other modifiers are applied.

Forged in the Dark

Check the Blades in the Dark chapter on Fortune Rolls for more details.

Fortune rolls can also be used for passive abilities, such as having a player make a fortune roll using their mental ability or perception detail to determine if they spot a hidden doorway or other secret.

Fortune rolls can be used if the consequence of a failure is simply nothing happening. If there are consequences for the character, such as when not spotting a hidden trap, you should use Resistance Rolls instead.
