Njom used to be twice as large as it is today, by population. It was hit hard in the [[Famine of 16 AV]] and almost everyone in the village perished. Only seven children survived the winter and fled to [[Amata]] as soon as the snow had melted enough to make the road passable. In spring, six more frozen bodies were found near the road who had attempted the trip sometime during the winter and had apparently been set upon by wolves, lost the way and perished in the cold. The trip of just two hours in summer turned out deadly in winter.

Peasants from [[Amata]] and [[Egidaura]] re-settled the abandoned village two years later, on orders of Lord [[Krosin]]. Everyone in the village today is a descendant of those settlers.
